Attention
This call was a short preliminary call sounded to bring the men to attention. It alerted the troops that more information was coming. It was used for many other different commands such as;
When in camp, it is a signal to prepare to fall in at the sounding of "Assembly". Start putting on accoutrements, filling canteens, etc...
On the march and moving, it was sounded to bring weapons to shoulder arms, take up step and dress ranks.
On the march while stopped, it was sounded and the troops would fall in to unstack arms upon command and reform lines as commanded.
